A plan was hatching in a certain twin's head, thinking on the go as she took glimpses of her twin brother now and then, planning on doing something that needed the other twin out of the house for a couple of hours. All that was needed was a convincing speech of sorts. "Gonou...——" Kanan began with a small smile on her lips, her hands right on Gonou's shoulders as she was now pushing him out. "——I want you to go out for a bit, for an hour or two? Okay? Please. Oh!" She stopped when Gonou had reached the threshold of the house, right at the door frame. She plucked out a small bag of money and handed it over to Gonou who looked like he was ready to protest. "But Kanan. Shouldn't I stay? I have a cake to bake." Gonou said, looking at her with a hint of confusion in his emerald green eyes. "No, silly. I have other plans." Kanan replied back as a small grin settled on her lips.

"Now! Don't spend this all at once, you hear me?" Kanan spoke out with a teasing tone, her upper body leaned forward, one of his hands were on her hips and the other was out in front of her, index finger up to shake it left to right at Gonou before chuckling. Gonou chuckled back and nodded. "Of course. Other plans." He turned around, stepping out, going a few feet away before stopping and turning to say: "Oh, and don't burn the house down while I'm gone. Bye Kanan! See you soon!~" He said, loud enough for Kanan to hear and pretend to be offended by that. "Heeeeey!" Kanan shook her fist at Gonou, then chuckled again. "Silly Gonou. I love you." Kanan closed the door and headed deeper inside, over to the kitchen.

"Okay, Kanan. You got this." The words of confidence drifted out from her lips, her hands going to each sleeve, rolling them up high, copying what Gonou did when he was in the kitchen. Cooking was easy. Right? Gonou made it easy. Her twin brother didn't have a lot of problems in the kitchen. It was like he was born to cook for them. Born to make food for Kanan and put all of his love in it. With that sort of stuff happening was making Kanan yearn to do the same, to attempt at cooking and put her love in it, to put a lot of effort to it and present it to Gonou, hoping to god that her food would taste decent enough to be approved by her twin brother. So this was her moment to shine, the moment to step out of these doors with a plate that has the most amazing and magnificent cake on top, with their two green candles on top, standing on top proudly with two flames flickering with VICTORY.

The only problem is...

How will she do that?

Kanan headed over to the small closet, opening it and grabbing one of Gonou's aprons. ( He has a lot. ) She then put the apron on and tied the two strings at the back. Now she was getting a step closer to the plan she strategized. "Hm... First I need is... to prepare a few stuff, like bowls, a measuring cup, a whisk, a cake tin! Yeah. I need that. Gonou has these somewhere..." As she trailed out her words, Kanan was searching around the kitchen before having to kneel down to the small cupboards, opening them up to find what she needed. "Of course he keeps them all in one place. All organised too. God. I love him. Haha." Kanan chuckled, reaching out to collect the things she needed, as preparation was the key, as it was best to get everything ready. Or so Gonou said, or did she read that off a book? No, no. Gonou definitely said that.

She got up and placed the stuff she needed on the surface of the counter, setting everything up and preheating the oven. Kanan stopped to smile at what she was doing. It looks like everything will be okay.

"Now I need the ingredients!—— Oh, and a recipe. I can't do this without a recipe." She plucked out Gonou's cookbook off the counter that was set up nearly against the tiled wall. "Hm." She flipped through it, going from page to page to find the recipe to make a cake. "Ah! There it is. A sponge cake. Okay. I need sugar, butter, eggs, flour, baking powder and milk." She placed the book down and headed over to fridge, and then the higher up cupboards that were above the counters, opening them to retrieve the proper ingredients, setting them neatly on the counter before looking at the recipe again.

She nodded to herself as she read the recipe, heading over to the oven to preheat it, then going back to mix the ingredients. So Kanan did that, proudly looking at her finest work, Gonou was going to be proud of her. "Okay, last ingredient. Baking powder." She grabbed the box of baking powder which was already open and held the spoon over the bowl of mixed ingredients, then she tipped the box, going for a light shake so the powder sprinkles out. Yet apparently, it didn't do that at all. As she "lightly" shaken the box, the powder poured out like a fast waterfall, going onto the spoon and over it, falling into the bowl. "Oh no!" She stopped immediately and looked at the amount of powder she placed in. "...I can't exactly undo that... Oh well. What's the worse that can happen? It'll probably be just a little bit higher." Kanan shrugged her shoulders and mixed all the ingredients before transferring it all into the cake tin. She quickly grabbed a pair of oven gloves and held the cake tin. "And done." She shoved it into the oven, and bang! There goes the oven door, closed properly. She then turned the dial on the timer they have. Now she got to wait for possibly thirty-five minutes or so. "Now I got to wait... Hm. Time to clean."

After the cleaning was finished, and the ingredients were properly placed away, Kanan happily lounged down on the couch, smiling in glee. Oh boy. She could see Gonou's face now. All surprised, happy in delight, smiling at Kanan and kissing her cheek, saying "good job!".

The timer soon chimed; dinging loudly that it caused Kanan to jump up from the couch, expression looking alarmed before realisation had sunk in. "Oh!" She hurried over to the oven, wondering what it looked like. She bet it looked like a lovely ca——

"..."

——you know what, never mind. The cake had certainly grown, definitely risen up to the point where all of its size had fitted in the space of the oven. It had gotten so big that most of it draped over the cake tin. She gulped, a panic now flurrying up on her face. She opened the oven's door, pulling it down to stare in awe at the monstrosity of what was supposed to be called a cake. "...This is fine. Who doesn't love a huge cake?" She said to herself to redeem back the confidence she had.

Kanan has gotten the oven gloves back on and reached out, hesitatingly and slow before grabbing the cake tin and trying to pull it out. "Oh come on!" Kanan yelled out in frustration, pulling and tugging. She tugged and pulled so much that the cake finally popped out, causing her to topple over. "WOAH!"

Now Kanan was on her butt, eyelids fluttering up and down, blinking before looking at the huge cake. She then mumbled out a few bunches of ouches and ow, her other oven-gloved hand rubbing her behind as she recollected herself and gotten up on her feet.

When Kanan got up and placed the 'massive-and-possibly-bulky-cake-like-jesus-christ-what-the-fuck' cake onto the table was the moment that Gonou walked in, happily holding two brown paper bags in his arms. "Kanan. I'm back. I got some stuff from a few stores, and I——" "——Gonou, wait!" Kanan held her arms out despite being too late. Gonou's emerald green eyes had seen it all. He had seen the pastry monstrosity that Kanan had created. It's a pastry DISASTER

Gonou blinked, his head tilted just a little to the side as he walked up. "Oh wow," Gonou said in awe, causing Kanan to blink in disbelief. "Huh?" She stared at the smile on Gonou's lips. "This is huge." He gently touched the cake. "It feels quite okay on the outside, did you test it on the inside too?" Kanan shook her head, so Gonou got something ( because I can't remember what they're called. ) and placed it down into the middle of the cake before pulling it out. "No obvious mixture. Perfect." "Wait. Really?" Kanan questioned. Her twin brother nodded. "Yes, really. Despite the size. You did pretty well." He placed a kiss on her lips, a way to congratulate her. "Now, shall we decorate it together?" A pleased, warm but oh-so-kind smile was right on the brother's lips as he gazed at Kanan who brightened up and nodded, happy to hear that.

In the end. Gonou and Kanan spent a lovely time together decorating the huge cake that was made by the one and only, Cho Kanan. They had fun together, oh, and they had casually placed a few frosting on each other's faces, a bit on their noses, and some on their lips, giggling along the way before setting the final design on the table, right on a big plate for this big cake, then they placed two green candles on top. Kanan sang 'Happy Birthday' to Gonou whilst Gonou happily hummed along, then they lit the candles, blew the flames away and wished for happiness for one another.

Whether you make a certain error in a recipe or if you slipped it. In the very end, it's likely to turn up to be a happy error or something that can be easily accepted by the other. As it was their birthday, a day to cherish each other and to love each other, both happy to be in the same home as one another.

Let's hope this happiness never ends.

A day like today was the day that Hakkai couldn’t stop the depressed feelings from entering his chest, to overwhelm him and burden him with the weight of memories; both good and bad. Memories of her, of her smile, the way that she spun on her heel to look over at him, the way her emerald green eyes reflected happiness in her eyes; no sorrow whatsoever. He remembers the specific memories on their birthday, the birthday that they shared together due to them being twins. Back then. It was the happiest day of their lives. It was very memorable since it was just the two of them, together in a small home that they’re both happily lived in without no worries, not a lot at least. On their birthday, Hakkai was the one to make the cake, for it to be special since it was homemade by him, and Kanan was the one who went out to get the decorations for that cake. She would get a lot for the cake that there wouldn’t be a lot of room for the two green candles that she picked out for them as the two green candles represented them together, signifying that they’re together, always.

They put the cake on the table, two plates ready on opposite sides with two clean forks beside the plates. The two green candles were placed, Hakkai placed his in, Kanan did the same for hers, then they lit up the candles and together, they blew them out, wishing for a good life together, for their love to never die out. ’ Happy birthday, Kanan. ’. He said to her lovingly. ’ Happy birthday, Gonou! ’. She said to him, lovingly and happily, smiling at him. Then after that, they would eat the cake, Kanan would hum happily at the taste, praising him and Hakkai happily thanked her.

In the end. He could never have that experience again. He could, however, celebrate his birthday with his friends, with Hakuryuu, Gojyo, Goku and Sanzo. Hakkai was pleased with them, happy that they would celebrate with him. However… It wasn’t the same.

Hakkai stood there with a plate in his hand, and on that plate was a cake with two candles on it. Two green candles. They were both lit up. “Come on, ‘Kai. Blow them out already or this stupid monkey will do it for ya!” Gojyo said, patting Hakkai on the back. Hakkai chuckled a little, avoiding any signs of depression. He can’t act like this. Not now. “…Fine, fine. If you insist.”

Hakkai leaned forward, his emerald green gaze peering at the two flickering candles. “…” He blew at them, one snuffed out, the other still lit. He stared at it, feeling his heart ached, weighing heavy in his chest. He ignored the pain, the sadness that drew through his lungs, aching him to cry out. He shook his head and blew at the other candle, snuffing it out too with his breath, then he leaned back and smiled. “Hakkai! Hakkai! What did you wish for?” Goku asked eagerly. “…For a certain someone who I hope is still happy and at peace, oh, and plenty of green tea.”

’ Happy birthday, Kanan. I miss you. I wish the best for you. I love you. ’
