Drabble - Kanan & Hakkai

A day like today was the day that Hakkai couldn’t stop the depressed feelings from entering his chest, to overwhelm him and burden him with the weight of memories; both good and bad. Memories of her, of her smile, the way that she spun on her heel to look over at him, the way her emerald green eyes reflected happiness in her eyes; no sorrow whatsoever. He remembers the specific memories on their birthday, the birthday that they shared together due to them being twins. Back then. It was the happiest day of their lives. It was very memorable since it was just the two of them, together in a small home that they’re both happily lived in without no worries, not a lot at least. On their birthday, Hakkai was the one to make the cake, for it to be special since it was homemade by him, and Kanan was the one who went out to get the decorations for that cake. She would get a lot for the cake that there wouldn’t be a lot of room for the two green candles that she picked out for them as the two green candles represented them together, signifying that they’re together, always.

They put the cake on the table, two plates ready on opposite sides with two clean forks beside the plates. The two green candles were placed, Hakkai placed his in, Kanan did the same for hers, then they lit up the candles and together, they blew them out, wishing for a good life together, for their love to never die out. ’ Happy birthday, Kanan. ’. He said to her lovingly. ’ Happy birthday, Gonou! ’. She said to him, lovingly and happily, smiling at him. Then after that, they would eat the cake, Kanan would hum happily at the taste, praising him and Hakkai happily thanked her.

In the end. He could never have that experience again. He could, however, celebrate his birthday with his friends, with Hakuryuu, Gojyo, Goku and Sanzo. Hakkai was pleased with them, happy that they would celebrate with him. However… It wasn’t the same.

Hakkai stood there with a plate in his hand, and on that plate was a cake with two candles on it. Two green candles. They were both lit up. “Come on, ‘Kai. Blow them out already or this stupid monkey will do it for ya!” Gojyo said, patting Hakkai on the back. Hakkai chuckled a little, avoiding any signs of depression. He can’t act like this. Not now. “…Fine, fine. If you insist.”

Hakkai leaned forward, his emerald green gaze peering at the two flickering candles. “…” He blew at them, one snuffed out, the other still lit. He stared at it, feeling his heart ached, weighing heavy in his chest. He ignored the pain, the sadness that drew through his lungs, aching him to cry out. He shook his head and blew at the other candle, snuffing it out too with his breath, then he leaned back and smiled. “Hakkai! Hakkai! What did you wish for?” Goku asked eagerly. “…For a certain someone who I hope is still happy and at peace, oh, and plenty of green tea.”

’ Happy birthday, Kanan. I miss you. I wish the best for you. I love you. ’
